…represents a practically focused humanities field, the aim of which is to prepare students for the qualified performance of the profession of social worker. In addition to the traditional scientific disciplines of philosophy, social work is a field that provides a significant overlap into direct practice. Professional practice therefore forms an integral part of the study programme. In addition, students also learn theories and methods of social work, so that after successful completion of their studies, they are true experts in this profession. The standard period of Bachelor study is 3 years (6 semesters).<\/p>\n
The study includes subjects compiled in accordance with the Minimum Standard of Education in Social Work, set by the Association of Educators in Social Work (ASVSP). The study programme is provided by the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.<\/p>\n

Within the social work study programme, we make sure that each student correctly understands the goals of social work, is acquainted with professional methods, and also knows the approaches and theories of this field. Only a meaningful and comprehensible interpretation of the theory, which we try to provide within the taught subjects, allows an understanding of the true nature of the future profession of students. In this way, we try to cultivate students\u2019 relationships to social work as a profession, and to support their professional identity. In teaching, we emphasize the comprehensive interconnection of theory and practice.<\/p>\n

In addition to supporting theoretical knowledge, we consider it important that students gain professional experience through continuous and associated professional practice. Based on our philosophy of practice, we are convinced that every social worker should have a certain professional identity, an overview of social services in a given locality, and a certain level of experience in the professional performance of their job. All of this ensures a smooth and safe transition of the social work student into the working life of the social worker.<\/p>\n
